What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?

Counselling and Psychotherapy are about empowerment. This empowerment can happen relatively quickly when you know you are being compassionately heard and understood. 

The mind and body are a storehouse of memories, conditionings, values and judgements that have often reached their sell-by date. We form opinions and create beliefs when we do not have access to the complete picture, especially in our formative years. This creates difficulties that the mind finds complicated to handle. It creates feelings and emotions which are confusing.

It is at times like this that we feel the need to reach out for help.

Fortunately, for 2500 years the psychology of the mind has been studied by scholars and practitioners alike to help us learn how to observe the mind to create the possibility for change. What has been recorded for everyone to understand are practical ways for us all to hold a compassionate approach to life and an understanding of inter-dependence of how we share our life with others. Also recorded are the practices of meditation and kindness as essential ingredients for happiness and contentment. These practices can be learnt. It’s a recipe for well-being and joy.

Practicing mindfulness daily brings additional awareness to our life. The mainstay of mindfulness is learning to stay present; becoming aware of the breath and training the mind in meditation. This creates the potential to feel relaxed and unrushed.

The simple gifts of mindfulness and meditation offer us the capability to look at situations, emotions, thoughts and feelings with new perceptions and perspective. It opens us to an awareness of the connection with the universal field of energy and ultimate consciousness. It helps us to use the mind in a positive wholesome way throughout the day.

When we are happy and this is an inner happiness not dependent on external things or people, it becomes lasting.  Someone who has this happiness is content within and without, with themselves, with those around them and with life, and therefore will not easily be shaken by the challenges presented by life.

  

 

More about using the Mind in a Positive Way

Using the mind in a positive way is to be aware of one’s thoughts, to know the arising of the unwholesome emotions or mental states and let those go without reacting; it is also knowing when wholesome mental states arise, allowing these states to recur thereby promoting these wholesome states to continue. 

As you continue to observe the mind, you gain the strength to quickly release unwholesome thoughts and patterns and induce positive wholesome thoughts thereby essentially rewiring the brain and body system pathways.

Unwholesome mental states such as anger, hatred and envy create unpleasant energetic sensations and chemical responses in the body.  These states held over time become imprints in our beingness and lead to disease. 

As the mind in daily life becomes pure or free from unwholesome and unproductive thought processes, you experience many other benefits including good health, good relationships, happiness, joy, contentment, equanimity and peace.

The Radical Forgiveness Ceremony

Want to let go of the past.Then join us for a wonderful Radical Forgiveness ceremony.

Based on a Native American healing circle ceremony, this largely non-verbal process preserves privacy and anonymity, yet has proven itself to be extremely powerful and effective in allowing people to forgive themselves and others, and to find peace and happiness.

We walk the circle once to silently honour and witness our 'story' of what happened. As we see others walk too, we realize we are not alone, and we honour their pain. After hearing a special Radical Forgiveness story, we walk the circle again and ask inwardly to come to a new place of forgiveness and peace.And it works! People leave with tears of joy and smiling faces. It is entirely non-threatening and yet is likely to change your life forever!

What is meditation?

Meditation is a personal discipline to come know the mind and train it.

It’s an opportunity to sit peacefully and do nothing except be mindful and observe.

Observe the mind. No need to react or respond. It’s a learning process to help us become more aware. This awareness we take into our daily lives, our relationships at home and in business and it’s a nugget of gold that we carry in our pocket. Let’s face it, the more we are aware of how we tick the less likely we are to get upset or to upset others.

We all would like peace and contentment in our lives and there’s been enough written and shown for everyone to know that this comes from within. One pathway to this space within is through meditation.

Meditation is great way to access these states of mind and do some discovering about yourself on the way. Discovering that is, without recrimination. Therefore leaving behind the, “Oh! I could have done that better.” No judgement. The way it is IS how it is. It will inevitably change.
